Yeghegnadzor is a town and urban community in southern Armenia. It is the capital of Vayots Dzor Province. It is 123 km south of the capital, Yerevan, on the shores of the Srkghonk River. It is at a height of 1194 metres above sea level. There were about 6,600 people in Yeghegnadzor in 2016. It was also 7,944 people living there in 2011. People in the Armenian Apostolic Church live in Yeghegnadzor, which is where the Diocese of Vayots Dzor is based. The name Yeghegnadzor is made up of two Armenian words: yegheg, which means cane, and dzor, which means valley. Thus, the town's name means "valley of canes."
