About Pembroke Parish

When you live in Bermuda, you live in one of the nine parishes that make up its country. English aristocrat William Herbert, 3rd Earl of Pembroke, lived from 1580 to 1630. It is named after him because it looks like him. A small peninsula juts out from the central north coast of Bermuda's main island. It covers most of the peninsula, and it surrounds the city of Hamilton on three of its four sides (the fourth being taken up by the shore of Hamilton Harbour). This is because its shape looks a little like Pembrokeshire, a county in Wales. There is a peninsula on the east side of the Great Sound, which is the main body of water in western Bermuda. Devonshire Parish is in the east. In the same way that most of the parishes in Bermuda are small, St. George's is just over 2.3 square miles big. It had 11,160 people in 2016. In Pembroke, there are a lot of natural things to see, like Spanish Point, Point Shares, and a lot of small islands off Point Shares. Other things to look for in Pembroke are Fort Hamilton and the Government House. Ramsar named Pembroke Marsh East on May 11, 1999, as a place where people can go to see wildlife.
