When you go to the Dominican Republic, Barahona is one of the cities there. Located three hours from Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic is the Barahona Coast. It is a long way to get there, but it is worth it. Volunteers from Amigos de las Americas came to Barahona in 2019 to help with projects in the different municipalities. As a city, Barahona is the capital of the province in southwest Dominican Republic. It is also known as Santa Cruz de Barahona, which means "St. Cruz of Barahona." On the island, it is a major city with a busy port and many eco-tourism attractions. The city is also a place where sugar is grown and made.
