El Paraiso is a town in the department of El Paraiso in Honduras. It has a population of 26,640 in 2020. Tobacco is made in the town of Nestor Plasencia's factory, which also makes Rocky Patel-brand cigars. El Paraiso is one of the 18 departments (departamentos) that make up Honduras. After Central America became an independent country in 1825, the territory of El Paraiso was part of the departments of Tegucigalpa and Olancho. Francisco Morazan was named after him in 1943. The department of El Paraiso was created on May 28, 1869, by a congressional decree in the third political division of Honduras, during the presidency of Jose Mara Medina. It was made up of cities from the departments of Tegucigalpa and Olancho. In the beginning, El Paraiso was made up of Danli, Yuscaran, and Texiguat, as well as the town of Guinope.
