Basra is an Iraqi city situated on the banks of the Shatt al-Arab River. In 2018, it was predicted to have a population of 1.4 million people. Basra is also Iraq's most important port, despite the fact that it lacks deep-water access, which is handled at the port of Umm Qasr instead.
The city is one of the ports of call for the fictitious Sinbad the Sailor, who embarked on his expedition from there. Construction on the structure began in 636 and it played an essential part in early Islamic history. Basra is typically one of the warmest cities in Iraq, with summer temperatures often topping 50 degrees Celsius (122 degrees Fahrenheit) in the summer.
