Aomori Ken Postal code
Aomori-ken is a prefecture of Japan that is in the Thoku area. City Aomori is the capital, largest city, and name of the prefecture. It is also the city's name. Japan's main island, Honshu, is divided into seven prefectures: Aomori is the northernmost, and it is bordered by the Pacific Ocean to the east, Iwate Prefecture to the southeast, Akita Prefecture to the southwest, and the Sea of Japan to the west. Hokkaido is across the Tsugaru Strait from Honshu. At 9,645.64 km2 (3,724.20 sq mi), it is the 8th-largest prefecture in Japan. It also has more than 1.2 million people. 45 percent of people in Aomori Prefecture live in the two cities that make up its core: Aomori and Hachinohe. Both of these cities are on the coast. Most of the prefecture is made up of forests and mountains, with people living in valleys and plains. Aomori is the third-largest prefecture in the Thoku region, after Miyagi Prefecture and Fukushima Prefecture, which both have a lot of people. Mount Iwaki, a stratovolcano that is still active, is the highest point in the prefecture. It is almost 1,624.7 m high (5,330 ft). People have lived in the prefecture for at least 15,000 years, and the oldest evidence of pottery in Japan was found at the Odai Yamamoto I site from the Jmon period. People from two clans had been in charge for centuries. The prefecture was made out of the northern part of Mutsu Province during the Meiji Restoration, and it was named after the Meiji Emperor. Though most of the prefecture's businesses are in the primary sector, it also serves as a transportation hub because it is at the northern end of Honshu, which makes it easy to get around.
