Gunma Prefecture is a prefecture of Japan that is in the Kant region on the island of Honshu. It has a population of 1,937,626 (1 October 2019) and is spread across 6,362 km2 (2,456 sq mi). As you can see from this map, Gunma Prefecture is near Niigata Prefecture and Fukushima Prefecture in the north, Nagano Prefecture in the southwest, Saitama Prefecture in the south, and Tochigi Prefecture in the east. You can visit the capital, Maebashi; the largest city is Takasaki; the other big cities are ta, Isesaki and Kiryo. Gunma Prefecture is one of only eight landlocked prefectures. It is located on the northwestern corner of the Kant Plain and has 14 percent of its land set aside for natural parks.
