Gilbert Islands Zip code

This group of 16 islands and atolls is called the Gilbert Islands. They are about halfway between Papua New Guinea and Hawaii. It was from 1976 to 1979 that they were known as "British colony of the Gilbert Islands." Before that, from 1916 to 1975, they were known as the "Gilbert and Ellice Islands colony." They make up the majority of the country of Kiribati, which means "Gilberts" in the language of the Gilbertese people who live there.
