About Southampton Parish

There are nine parishes in Bermuda. Southampton Parish is one of them, and it is in the middle of them. It is named after Henry Wriothesley, the 3rd Earl of Southampton, who lived there (1573-1624). You can see it from here. It's in the southwest part of the island chain, and it takes up the western part of the main island except for the tip (which is part of Sandys Parish). There are two parts to this chain: its southernmost point, and most of its north coast, which is part of the Little Sound (an arm of the Great Sound, the large expanse of water which dominates the geography of western Bermuda). In the east, Warwick Parish is next to the town. In the same way that most of the parishes in Bermuda are small, St. George's is just over 2.3 square miles big. It had 6,421 people living there in 2016. Whale Bay, Church Bay, Horseshoe Bay, and Riddell's Bay are some of the natural things in Southampton. Other things to look for in Southampton are the Whale Bay Fort and the Gibbs Hill Lighthouse, which is at the top of the chain.
