Dajabon is a province in the northwest of the Dominican Republic. It is one of the 32 provinces of the country. It is made up of five municipalities and the capital city, which has the same name as the city. People live in Monte Cristi, Santiago Rodrigues, Elas Pia, and the Nord-Est department of Haiti. It is on the north, south, and west of these places. When Monte Cristi split from Libertador in 1938, it was called Libertador until 1961 when it changed its name. Monte Cristi is in the northwestern part of the country. It has the provinces of Santiago Rodrguez (east) and Elas Pia (north) around it (south). To the west of Dajabon, Haiti is the country. There was a Tano name for the region called Dahaboon. It was also the name of one of the main rivers in the region. There is a town called Dajabon in the Dominican Republic. It is the capital of the Dajabon province. People who live in Haiti are on the northwestern border. At least 26,000 people live there. It is north of the Cordillera Central mountain range, which is in the middle of the country. Dajabon is on the Dajabon River, which is also known as the Massacre River because of an event that happened in 1728. In that event, 30 French pirates were killed by Spaniards. During the Parsley Massacre, a group of people were killed. The name came to be known after that.
