People in the Dominican Republic live in Monte Plata, which is a province in the east. It is also the name of its capital city. They split up San Cristobal in 1992. There are three provinces in the north: Sanchez Ramirez, Duarte, and Samana. To the east are the provinces of Hato Mayor and San Pedro de Macors, to the south is Santo Domingo, and to the west are the provinces of San Cristobal and Monseor Nouel. The province is surrounded by three other provinces. Monte Plata is a town and municipality (municipio) in the Dominican Republic. It is the capital of the province of Monte Plata and the largest city in the province. Included are Boya, Chirino, and Don Juan, which are all municipalities.
