Orellana is a province in the middle of Ecuador. City: Puerto Francisco de Orellana is the capital of the country (also known as Coca). It was formed on July 30, 1998, from a part of the Napo Province that had been there before. They got their name from the explorer Francisco de Orellana. It is said that he set sail from somewhere near the town and went out to sea to get to Atlantic Ocean. His goal was to find the gold city of El Dorado and to find the Nutmeg Forest, which was an expensive spice at the time. He did this trip many times to look for these things. During his travels, he came across a group of Indians who were very dangerous. Many of them were women. This led to the river's name being changed to the Amazon river. The province is made up of four cantons.
