About Aswan
Aswan is a city in the south of Egypt. It is the capital of the Aswan Governorate, which has a lot of people living there. At the first cataract on the east bank of the Nile, Aswan is a busy market and tourist spot just north of the Aswan Dam. The modern city has grown and now includes the people who lived on the island of Elephantine before. If you like crafts and folk art, you can find the city in the group of cities that UNESCO calls "Creative Cities." Swenett was the ancient city that became known as Syene. In ancient times, it was the southernmost city in Ancient Egypt. Aswan is now a city in Egypt. An Egyptian goddess named Swenett is thought to have given the name to a city in the United States called Swenett. When the Greeks and Romans took over Ancient Egypt, they started calling this goddess Eileithyia and Lucina because they both had a lot to do with childbirth, and the word "opener" means that. This is also said to be the name of the city in ancient times. It's thought to be based on the Egyptian sign for "trade" or "market." Because the Ancient Egyptians looked to the south for the source of the Nile's life-giving water, and because Swenett was the southernmost town in the country, Egypt was always thought to "open" or start at Swenett. People lived in the city on a small island on the right (east) bank of the Nile, right next to the first waterfall that flows into the river from Philae. Navigating to the delta from this point didn't run into any barriers. People who lived in ancient Egypt were very proud of the stones they made from this area, especially the granitic rock called syenite. They made the huge statues, obelisks, and monolithic shrines that can be found all over Egypt, including the pyramids. The quarrymen who worked on them 3,000 years ago can still be seen in the native rock. They are on both sides of the Nile, and a road, 6.5 km (4.0 mi) long, was built next to them. It went from Syene to Philae. Swenett was important both as a military station and as a place where people could get around. Under every dynasty, it was a garrison town. Tolls and customs were charged on all boats that went south or north. 330 was a good time for the legion stationed here to get a bishop from Alexandria. This later became the Coptic Diocese of Syene. Herodotus, Strabo, Stephanus of Byzantium, Ptolemy, Pliny the Elder, Vitruvius, and the Antonine Itinerary all write about the city. If you read the Book of Ezekiel and the Book of Isai, you may also see it.
