There is a governorate called Beni Suef in Egypt. Beni Suef is the capital city of this governorate. People who live in Beni Suef go to Beni Suef University there. The name of the town today is a mix-up of its original name, Manfiswayh, which comes from a Coptic name for a place. It was home to the city of Heracleopolis for a long time, from the early Pharaonic era to the Roman era. It was also the capital of Lower and Middle Egypt during the 9th and 10th dynasties. The modern city came to be known in the Middle Ages, when it was known for making linen.
