About Qena
Qena is the capital of the Qena Governorate and is located in Upper Egypt. It was known in antiquity as Kaine (Greek v, meaning "new (city)"; Latinized transliteration: Caene) and Maximianopolis, and it was located on the east bank of the Nile. Qena is linked to ancient Shabt, according to Gauthier. This province capital is 95 kilometres north of El Balyana and 63 kilometres north of Luxor. It is most known for its closeness to the Dendara ruins. The opening of the Wadi Qena towards the Red Sea, which is a significant commercial route between Upper Egypt and the Red Sea, is responsible for its present wealth.
