What is an Elevation?

Elevation is the height of a point on the Earth's surface above a reference level, usually consider the sea level. Commonly Elevation measured in the meters or feet.
For Example :
Mount Everest has the highest elevation point in the world at 8,848.86 meters (29,031.7 feet) above sea level.
The Dead Sea has one of the lowest elevations point on land at −430 meters (−1,411 feet) below sea level.

What is different between Elevation and Altitude?

Elevation refers to the height of a point on the Earth's surface above sea level.
Altitude refers to the height of an object (such as an aircraft or satellite) above the Earth's surface or above sea level.

Elevation histogram of the Earth's surface

The elevation histogram for Earth's surface displays where land and ocean depths are located, showing the higher points at sea level and in deep ocean point. Most of the Earth's area is taken up by ocean basins, while land elevations are smaller, with important peaks found in mountain ranges. This image helps you understand the elevation point on earth.
