Depto De Huehuetenango Postal code
We live in a department in Guatemala that is one of 22. Chiapas, Mexico, is to the north and west; El Quiche, Guatemala, is to the east; Totonicapan, Quetzaltenango, and San Marcos, Guatemala are to the south. In the capital city, Huehuetenango, there are a lot of people. Huehuetenango has one of the most diverse groups of people in Guatemala. Besides the Mam, there are other Maya groups called Q'anjob'al, Chuj, Jakaltek, Awakatek, Chalchitek, Akatek, and K'iche'. People from each of these nine Maya groups speak their own language. To give it its name, it was given to it by the city of Huehuetenango, which is also the department's capital. A native language of central Mexico gave the name to the city. The name comes from the Nahuatl language. A lot of people say that it means "place of the elders," but it could be a mistranslation of "place of the trees."
