About Bengkulu

Bengkulu is in Indonesia. Bengkulu is a province. It is on the southwest coast of the island of Sumatra. It was formed on November 18, 1968, when the former Bengkulu Residency area was taken away from the province of South Sumatra under Law No. 9 of 1967. It was made official by Government Regulation No. 20 of 1968. Surrounded by four provinces, it covers 19,813 km2. They are West Sumatra to the north, Jambi in northeastern and South Sumatra to the east, Lampung to the southeast, and South Sumatra to the west. It is also surrounded by Indian Ocean to the northwest and south as well as to the west, southwest, and northwest. Bengkulu is the 25th-largest province in terms of land area. It is made up of nine regencies and the city of Bengkulu, which is both the capital and the largest city of all. There were 1,715,518 people living in Bengkulu at the 2010 Census and there will be 2,010,670 people living there at the 2020 Census. A report from the Badan Pusat Statistik says that it has the eleventh highest Human Development Index out of all the provinces. In 2013, it had a score of about 0.744. 2014: By then, the province is 28th in gross domestic product and 20th in life expectancy. It has 70.35 years of life left. Bengkulu also has Mega Island and Enggano Island in the Indian Ocean, which are both off the coast. When you look at the Indian Ocean from Dusun Baru Pelokan to Tebing Nasal, Bengkulu has a coastline of 525 kilometres. This is on its west side, from Muko-Muko Regency to Kaur Regency. Bengkulu has a lot of natural resources, like coal and gold. It also has a lot of big and promising geothermal resources. Even so, it isn't as well-developed as other parts of Sumatra. Traditional sources say that the name Bengkulu or Bangkahulu came from the words bangkai and hulu, which mean "carcasses in a stream." This is how the name came to be. It is said there was once a war between small kingdoms in Bengkulu, which led to many deaths on both sides in the Bengkulu streams. These people died quickly because they were not buried and lay in river streams. This etymology is similar to the story of a war between the Majapahit Empire and the Pagaruyung Kingdom in Padang Sibusuk, an area that was once ruled by the Dharmasraya empire. The name Padang Sibusuk comes from dead bodies that were left on the battlefield. It was called Bencoolen or British Bencoolen when it was ruled by Europeans.
