Province: It has a land border with Central Kalimantan to the southeast, East Kalimantan to the east, and Sarawak, a land border with Malaysia to the north. If you want to call it "The Province with a Thousand Rivers," then West Kalimantan is the place for you. The name is based on the fact that there are many large and small rivers that can be and often are navigable in the area. Some big rivers are still the main way to get goods to the rest of the country, even though roads have been built in most parts of the country. Even though only a small part of West Kalimantan is in the sea, there are dozens of large and small islands (mostly uninhabited) spread out over the Karimata Strait and the Natuna Sea. Since the 2000 census, there were 4,073,430 people in the province. In 2010, there were 4,395,983, but by 2020, there were 5,414,390 people in the province.
