It has a land area of 5,676 km2 (2,191 sq mi). People in Ehime Prefecture live next to Kagawa Prefecture to the northeast. They live in Tokushima Prefecture to the east, and in Kchi Prefecture to the southeast. Matsuyama is the capital and largest city of Ehime Prefecture. It is also the largest city on Shikoku Island, with other major cities like Imabari, Niihama, and Saij as well. Kenzaburo Oe won the 1994 Nobel Prize for Literature, Shuji Nakamura won the 2014 Nobel Prize in Physics, and Syukuro Manabe won the 1999 Nobel Prize for Physics (2021 Nobel Prize in Physics).
