Ukraine postal codes

Ukraine's postal codes are five-digit numeric. Ukrposhta utilises the Ukrainian postal system. "Ukrposhta" was founded as a distinct state-owned organisation on February 2, 1994, by resolution of Ukraine's Cabinet of Ministers. This decision was made as a result of the restructuring of the telecoms industry (division into postal communications and telecommunications).

The association was restructured as the Ukrainian State Postal Service Enterprise "Ukrposhta" in July 1998. Since 1999, it has been turned into a unitary business controlled by the state and managed by the Ukrainian Ministry of Infrastructure.

First two digits

The first two digits of the Ukrainian postal code can range from 01 to 99 ("00" is not used in the first two places), denoting the administrative subdivisions of state control at the national level:

Kyiv – postal codes beginning with combinations 01-06 are assigned based on the city's size and capital status; Oblasts – each of the 24 oblasts is assigned several pairs of digits (2 to 6), with the smallest pair used for postal encoding in the oblast's capital city; Autonomous Republic of Crimea – the same postal code system as oblasts; Sevastopol – city with special national-level governance status, where postal codes begin with

Additionally, as an exception, one pair of the first two postal code numbers ("50") is allotted to the city of Kryvyi Rih in the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast.

Third digit

The third digit of the Ukrainian postal code denotes lower-level administrative units: raion and town subordinated to the oblast.

Fourth and Fifth digit

These digits represent the location of separate post offices (or an individual settlement, if it has a single post office).

The fourth and fifth numbers are "00" for raion and oblast-level subordinate towns' central post offices;

Postal code digits from third to fifth are used to indicate post offices in oblast capital cities, the capital of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, as well as in Kyiv and Sevastopol.

A postal code with "000" at positions 3-5 is used for the oblast's central post office (which is invariably situated in the oblast's capital city);

At postal code positions 3-5, the numerals "999" are used to indicate inter-raion communication centres, regional mail collection and processing centres, railway post offices, and other special post offices that are not affiliated with a specific territory.
